5 tricks to stay motivated
Jan 24, 2023
Every Monday, I wake up motivated and produce all day. I write a lot, get in touch with people, review strategies, organize the calendar, etc.
The start of the week is inspiring. But as the week goes by, I run out of gas, and tasks that should take 20 minutes take all day.
Procrastination has become my modus operandi. I produced less than half of what I wrote as a goal for the week on Friday. The feeling that was of achievement on Monday turned into frustration on Friday. I’m trying out some tricks to stay motivated that I want to share here. The last one is the most important!
1 – Intention
Write your intention for the day every morning. It could be just a word or a phrase. Set the intention with which you want to lead your day and return to it whenever you feel unmotivated. I got this tip from Oprah, and it has helped me.
2 – Change in ambiance
I work from home, and I confess that sometimes the sofa is too tempting. Going to a cafe or the building’s lounge forces me to work harder. The principle is that I moved with a computer and everything. I can stare at my laptop or cross things off my list.
3 – Commitment
I schedule important meetings for the last days of the week. If I need to talk to someone, I better produce what I have to deliver to that person during the week. Also, talking inspires me, so it’s a great way to keep the energy up.
4 – Rest
On Thursday, I reserve the morning to have a bigger coffee, calm my mind, and read a book before starting the day’s obligations. Resting is part of training.
5 – Pleasure
Whenever I’m procrastinating, I try to reactivate the memory of the pleasure a completed task gives me. I connect with the pleasure of sitting down to write, the joy of receiving feedback, and other details that make me happy.
