Adele turns 30 on Vogue
Mar 1, 2022
Adele is on the cover of American Vogue November 2021 in an emerald green dress with meters enveloping the whole exterior and filling us with hope.
If I want to be relevant as a writer one day, I’d better start commenting on things when they happen. Still, I’m done with Twitter (again) and tend to rebel – which doesn’t help me at all. Enough about me, let’s talk about Adele, which feels like talking about myself. I’ll explain why.
The subject of the magazine is an interview about her new album, “30”. Adele, through her compositions, tells how she goes through phases of her personal evolution with melodies that glue in our heads.
She composed while on her return of Saturn – The time in your life when you actually become an adult. She was also getting a divorce and living in the middle of a pandemic (like all of us).
A study assigns a kind of destiny to each person based on birth. You have 52 regular playing cards that repeat themself until it reaches 365 days.
Your birthday is equivalent to a card. Adele and I split or Ace of spades. In practice, it means that we make art with the experiences we live. I felt less alone in the world reading Adele’s interview.
She created songs that helped her understand the phase she was going through; I wrote a book.
Together, in our private pains, we find relief – from the addictions of the past – with new routines, new realities, and new habits. All of that reduced the anxiety of not knowing the next step during 2020.
Afraid of the new, the old, and terrified of the idea of impermanence. Adele and I live different realities, but we are united in our agonies.
