The only lesbian in the room

Feb 14, 2023

Today is Valentine’s Day in the United States. Couples across the country go out to dinner and celebrate love. In 2023, the day falls on a Tuesday, and many people took advantage of the previous weekend to celebrate.

I’ll tell you that it’s not easy being an Aquarius anywhere in the world. In Brazil, my birthday was always close to Carnaval. Here it’s close to Valentine’s Day and, notwithstanding, the Super Bowl.

This year, I decided to celebrate the anniversary away from New York. I took my wife to a cute hotel in Tarrytown, about 50 minutes from my house. The hotel has a heated pool, events area, sports center, and lots of nature. Everything you would expect for a romantic weekend.

Of course, we found many other couples who went to celebrate Valentine’s Day, escaping the routine. It’s been a while since I’ve noticed how I’m usually the only lesbian in the room. Since we married in 2018, my wife and I have traveled a lot.

I also started going to different places than I was used to in Brazil. Living in New York, I needed to broaden my horizons and meet new people. I’ve realized that sometimes I’m the only lesbian in the room.

When we travel, we are always the only lesbian couple in hotel pools, restaurants, and promenades. Of course, we only visit places where we are institutionally welcome. So I walk hand in hand without fear. Still, it’s curious that I don’t find more female couples when wandering around the world.
